'Northern Scene' is an in depth exploration into individuals in the North East Music scene.

The North East is where I grew up and the live music scene has became a very big part of my life. I am very proud of my roots, as are many people from the North.

The North East music scene is very small compared to the likes of music capitols such as Manchester and Leeds. However, over the years venues and musicians have battled with lack of funding, small population and little recognition to pull the live music scene back up to its glory years. Although there is still a long way to go until the live music scene in the North East is widely recognised as successful; people from the North are already celebrating their passion and support for live music every day. This project will explore different people in the North East who have a strong passion for the live music story and will share the stories and experiences of these individuals.

The project consists of a book, website and social media which will be updated regularly with new submissions. This project was created through the time of the coronavirus global pandemic, which has impacted everybody's lives and we have all had to adapt our lifestyle in ways we could not have imaged. However, people from all over the North East have came together to contribute to this project and show that even at a time where live music events are cancelled, and we cant gather to hear music - we can all still keep the North East music scene alive by sharing our memories and experiences of it. As lockdown has been in place it was not possible to gather new photographs for all the people involved in this project, instead photographers and musicians have submitted their own photographs that they feel best represent themselves. This has allowed the project to blossom into something much more personal to each individual and has allowed more people to become involved and showcase their work.

what is the north east?
"What is the North East?" is a question argued over by many so - called Northerners. Whilst there is some dispute whether cities such as Leeds and York are in the North East, in the eyes of Geordies and Mackems, who are at the heart of the North East, believe that the true North East is made up of:
